WebStep 1: Definition. The shunt is generated by a resistor with an extremely low resistance coupled in parallel with some other resistor. A shunt resistance could be utilized just to increase the frequency of an ammeter measurement. The galvanometer employs a shunt to measure huge currents. It is also used as a diode. A cardiac shunt is a pattern of blood flow in the heart that deviates from the normal circuit of the circulatory system. It may be described as right-left, left-right or bidirectional, or as systemic-to-pulmonary or pulmonary-to-systemic. The direction may be controlled by left and/or right heart pressure, a biological or artificial heart valve or both. The presence of a shunt may also affect left and/or right heart pressure either beneficially or detrimentally.

WebVentriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) surgery remains the most widely accepted and used option method to treat post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) worldwide while lumboperitoneal shunt (LPS) serves as an effectively alternative treatment. However, the outcomes of VPS and LPS in the treatment of PHH have not been compared in a prospective trial. WebApr 6, 2024 · Shuntogram. In patients with ventriculoperitoneal or lumboperitoneal shunts, occasionally tests may be necessary to assess their function. A common diagnostic test is a “shunt-o-gram” which can be performed with contrast dye or a radioactive tracer. The flow of fluid is then imaged in real time to determine the function of the shunt.
